Men's Lacrosse falls to Regis 10-7 in nonleague action

Weston, MA- Despite a pair of goals each by seniors Johnny Hebert (Lowell, MA) and Tom Irwin (Vineyard Haven, MA), Men's Lacrosse fell this evening to Regis College 10-7 in nonleague action.

Both defenses kept their opponents in check through the first thirty minutes of this one as the Trailblazers would answer both Pride goals with tallies of their own, entering halftime knotted at two.

Regis would take their first two goal lead of the contest 4-2 at 10:49 of the 3rd but just :12 seconds later, junior Nate Allen (Cold Spring, NY) would score his first goal of the season and cut the lead back to one. Later in the quarter while a man up, the Pride would again open up a two-goal lead as Liam Donavan scored his 7th goal of the season to make it 5-3.

But MCLA wouldn't go away. A pair of Hebert and Irwin unassisted goals and again the game was tied 5-5 with just under six and half minutes to play in the 3rd quarter.

Momentum shifted quickly however as Regis freshman attacker Brendan Cook would score just :18 seconds later. Cook would score again late in the 3rd and once more early in the 4th quarter to complete the natural hat-trick and give the Pride an 8-5 advantage.

As they had done in the first half, the two squads traded two more goals apiece with Trailblazers Nathan Haley (North Adams, MA) scoring his 8th on the season and Irwin scoring late while a man up.

With his hat trick Cook led all scorers while his teammates Blake Hiltz and Ryan Richardson each added a pair. Pride goalkeeper Nick Penta evened up his record at 2-2 with 10 saves on 17 shots.

Junior goalkeeper Brady Larkin (Adams, MA) had 16 saves on 26 shots.

Regis held a slight advantage (27-26) in ground balls as well as committing five fewer turnovers (18-13). MCLA won 14 of 20 face-offs.

Both teams are back in action this Saturday as Regis (2-2) begins league play as it hosts Johnson and Wales. MCLA (0-3) will travel to Maine Maritime to kick off its North Atlantic Conference schedule with a 12pm start time.
