Ortiz named NAC Player of the Week

North Adams, MA—MCLA's Matt Ortiz (Cold Spring, NY) has been named as the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Week. Maine Maritime's senior midfielder Jed Astbury (Bridgewater, VT) was named NAC Defensive Player of the Week while SUNY Delhi's first year attackman/midfielder Sam Bieber (Homer, NY) was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
Ortiz won 33 of 40 face-offs, collected 23 ground balls and scored 3 goals and an assist helping the Trailblazers to a 2-0 week against Salem State and conference foe Cazenovia.
The senior midfielder won 12 of 14 face-offs to go along with nine ground balls, one caused turnover and an assist in a 9-4 win over Salem State before winning 20 of 26 face-offs, collecting 14 ground balls, causing two turnovers, and registering his first career hat-trick in the Trailblazers' 23-2 NAC season opening victory against Cazenovia College.
Ortiz and the Trailblazers will return to action this Saturday when they host Maine Maritime at Shewcraft Field.
