Men's Soccer battles elements, fall to Eastern Connecticut 6-0 in season opener

Willimantic, CT—Eastern Connecticut State University's Ryan Sirois collected a pair of goals and three other Warriors found the back of the net as they rolled past the visiting MCLA Trailblazers 6-0 in Men's Soccer action this evening.  The game marked the season debut for both sides and was played in a driving rain for the majority of the action.

ECSU is now 1-0 while MCLA starts 0-1.

The hosts were in command from the opening kickoff as they controlled possession early on.  They challenged MCLA goalkeeper Sam Edge early and the sophomore responded with a few highlight saves to keep the game scoreless.

Finally in the 24th minute, Sirois broke the ice.  He converted off a Will Toomey assist to give ECSU a 1-0 edge.  Nine minutes later, he would knock home a Walter Scudder pass to increase the lead to 2-0.  That goal started a first half barrage as the hosts would add two more goals in the next four minutes to pull away.

Toomey would connect with Caleb Ennin earning the assist and when Marcus Blair scored, it was 4-0 heading to halftime.

Eastern CT would add two goals in the second half as an own goal was recorded and then Ennin rounded out the scoring.

The Warriors held a decisive 37-2 shot advantage in the game which included a 19-1 mark on goal.

Edge did collect 13 saves in defeat for MCLA, but absorbed the loss.  Dylan Pallanck collected the win in goal for ECSU.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they open play in their annual tournament.  The Trailblazers will take on Western Connecticut at 2pm.
