MCLA and Union battle to 1-1 draw in non conference action

North Adams, MA-- The visiting Union College men's soccer team battled MCLA to a 1-1 double overtime draw this evening in non conference action.  Both teams scored their goals in the second half, but they could not convert the game winner in overtime.

Union is now 4-2-1 on the season.  MCLA is 1-4-1 overall.

After a scoreless first half that didn't feature much offense, Union finally broke through first.  In the 72nd minute of play, Robbie Michalski would knock home a Christian Rufo feed to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later however, MCLA would find the equalizer.  Trailblazer Gabe Dias would take a pass from Colin Rousseau and calmly tie things up at 1-1.  The goal was his first in a Trailblazers uniform.  The game would stay tied and head to overtime.

In the first OT, MCLA got off the only shot, but Junior Florent's attempt was wide of the goal.  They would head to a second overtime.

There, Union would outshoot MCLA 5-1, but couldn't get one past Trailblazer keeper Sam Edge.  In the closing minute, Union got off two attempts, one was blocked while the other was high to preserve the tie.

Edge would collect 9 saves for MCLA on the night.  Union's Kenyon Pelletier would stop 3 shots for the visitors.

For the contest, Union held a 25-12 edge in shots.  They also held an 8-1 mark in corners.

MCLA is back at Shewcraft Field on Friday when they host Westfield State at 6pm.
