Softball drops 12-4 decision on day two of Florida swing

Leesburg, FL-- Rain and windy conditions forced significant changes to the MCLA Softball schedule this afternoon.  The Trailblazers were set to play a pair of games starting at 9am this morning however torrential rains forced those games to be cancelled.  MCLA would eventually get a game lined up with Mount Mary, one of their originally scheduled opponents, later in the day at 6pm.

Mount Mary got off to a strong start and never looked back as they handled the Trailblazers 12-4 at Sleepy Hollow recreational park in Leesburg, Florida.  Mount Mary improves to 4-9 on the season while MCLA dips to 0-3.

MCLA scored a run in the top of the first inning as Sydney Matthews brought home Maddie Teta for an early 1-0 lead.  It was short lived however as Mount Mary put up seven runs in the bottom half of the frame.  Mount Mary took advantage of some Trailblazer errors and MCLA starter Lori Woyton struggled to find the strike zone.  When the dust had settled, Mount Mary owned a 7-1 lead.

The Traiblazers would scratch another run across in the second inning when Veronica Deacon stole home to close the gap to 7-2, but Mount Mary tacked on two more runs in the bottom half to regain full control.

The teams traded runs over the next two innings and MCLA scored a solo run in the fifth to get within 10-4, but Mount Mary would close the contest with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away.

Mount Mary outhit MCLA 9-4 in the ballgame.  Mount Mary's Brianna Lupa earned the win in the circle tossing 3.2 innings.

MCLA starter Lora Woynton took the loss.

The Trailblazers are off tomorrow before getting back on the diamond Monday.
