Ibrahim belts first collegiate home run but Softball falls to Curry, North Park

Clermont, FL- The MCLA Softball team ran into some powerful offenses today during the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.  The Trailblazers dropped the opener to Curry this afternoon by a score of 14-2 and then dropped the nightcap 11-1 to North Park.  MCLA is now 0-5 on the season.

Game One:  Curry 14, MCLA 2

Curry College belted out 18 hits and scored in every inning as they easily defeated the MCLA Trailblazers 14-2 this afternoon at Hancock Park.  Curry is now 1-2 on the season while MCLA dips to 0-4.

Curry scored a run in the top of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead before MCLA answered with a run in the bottom half.  Maddie Teta led off with a bunt single, promptly stole second and third, then came around when Justina Pardi singled to left to tie the game at 1-1.

From there, it was all Curry.  The Colonels would tack on three runs in the second and then blow the game open with a six run third inning to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

MCLA would add a run when first year Avianna Ibrahim ripped her first collegiate home run deep into left field to make it 10-2.  Curry added four runs in the fifth to account for the final margin.

Ibrahim started for MCLA and took the loss.  Teta led the offense with three hits including a pair of doubles.

Curry outhit MCLA 18-5 in the game.

Game Two:  North Park 11, MCLA 1

Alyssa Aragon was the story in this one.  The senior shortstop started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a line shot over the fence in center field for a quick 3-0 lead against MCLA starter Sarah Williams.  North Park took advantage of some MCLA miscues and increased their lead to 6-0, still in the first inning.

After batting around, Aragon came up again with the bases loaded.  This time she hit a towering fly deep to left field and the Grand Slam put the Vikings up 10-0 after just an inning of play.

Williams would settle down for the Trailblazers, but MCLA could not muster up any offense against pitchers Rachael Feazelle and Alli Patrick.  The Trailblazers lone run would come in the top of the fifth on Nicole Main's double into left field that scored Avianna Ibrahim.

Williams took the loss as she went all four innings.  She allowed 10 hits but only four earned runs in defeat.

MCLA is back in action tomorrow when they take on Franklin and Marshall and Cortland State.
