Softball swept by Albertus Magnus as they return to play

New Haven, CT-- The MCLA Softball team returned to action this afternoon as they took on the Albertus Magnus Falcons in a non league twinbill.  The Trailblazers dropped the opener 6-2 before falling 13-1 in the nightcap.

MCLA is now 0-11 overall while Albertus improves to 10-6.

Game One: Albertus Magnus 6, MCLA 2

MCLA came out of the gates strong in the opener as Lidia Flores doubled to left field bringing around Maddie Teta for an early 1-0 advantage.  Madyson Torres would collect an RBI on a groundout that scored Flores to increase the margin to 2-0 after a half inning of play.

The Falcons answered right away as Angelina Ramada singled home two runs in the bottom of the first off MCLA starter Lora Woyton to tie things up at 2-2.

The Falcons would gradually pull away as they added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before adding two insurance runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.  MCLA could not muster up much offense against Sklyar Arent and Ema Signore.  The duo combined to allow just 6 hits on the afternoon while striking out three Trailblazers.  Arent earned the win while Signore grabbed the save.

Woyton went 5.2 innings for MCLA allowing 8 hits and striking out 5.

Game Two: Albertus Magnus 13, MCLA 1 (five innings)

This one was over early as the Falcons scored eight times in the first and then added five more in the second to cruise to the early victory.  The key blow in the first inning was a three run homer from Ivy Geloso.

MCLA could not get much going against Falcon starter Erin Dighello.  She went the first four innings and allowed 5 hits and struck out 4 Trailblazers.

Woyton and Torres each ended with a pair of hits.

MCLA is back in action on Thursday when they head to Bay Path for a pair of non league tilts.
