Softball opens up Home schedule with pair of setbacks to Skidmore

North Adams, MA— The visiting Skidmore College softball team received a pair of solid pitching performances and pulled away in each game as they swept past the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon in non league action.  The Thoroughbreds took the opener by a score of 6-1.  Skidmore is now 16-4 overall while MCLA dips to 2-15.

Game One: Skidmore 6, MCLA 1

The visitors got on the board in the second inning as Chloe McGonigle drilled a two run homer to left field off Trailblazer starter Avianna Ibrahim.  The shot gave Skidmore the early 2-0 advantage.  They would add two more in the third inning on Genesis Delgado's RBI single and another came around on an MCLA overthrow to make it 4-0 after two and a half innings.

MCLA got a run back in the bottom of the third when they took advantage of a misplayed ball to cut it to 4-1.

Skidmore put the game out of reach with a pair of runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 6-1.  From there, the story was Skidmore starter Hannah Davis.  She went the distance in improving to 8-1 on the season.  Davis allowed just three hits and no earned runs.  She struck out six Trailblazers.

The Thoroghbreds outhit MCLA 12-3 in the contest.  Maddie Teta paced MCLA with a pair of hits and a stolen base.

Game Two: Skidmore 10, MCLA 1 (five innings)

In game two, MCLA struggled to get any offense going against Skidmore starter Lindsey Raimondi.  The Thoroughbreds took a 1-0 lead in the first and the game remained that way into the third inning.

An MCLA miscue in the third inning gave Skidmore a 2-0 advantage and then in the fourth they broke the game open.  They would tack on four runs with the key blow a Hannah Davis RBI hit to center field.  MCLA would get their lone run in the bottom of the inning on Avianna Ibrahim's infield single.

The Thoroughbreds broke things wide open again in the fifth by plating four more runs to collect the mercy rule win.

Raimondi went the distance going five innings, allowing four hits, and striking out three.  Skidmore outhit MCLA 10-4 in the nightcap.

MCLA's Lora Woyton went the first four innings for the Trailblazers.  She allowed 7 hits and just 2 earned runs.

The Trailblazers are back in action Saturday when they challenge Worcester State on the road.
