Women's Basketball returns to play, drops MASCAC opener to Owls

North Adams, MA-- After almost a month off from their last contest, the MCLA Women's Basketball team returned to the court this afternoon.  The Trailblazers hosted MASCAC foe Westfield State and the Owls came away with a 101-54 triumph in the conference opener for both teams.  The game was a last minute makeup after their contest on Wednesday was postponed due to covid protocols.

The Owls improve to 5-7 overall and sit at 1-0 in the conference.  MCLA is now 0-11 and 0-1 in the MASCAC.

Westfield started fast in this one as they led 30-16 after one quarter and pulled away in the second to increase the margin to 61-28 at halftime.  The Owls were never threatened and cruised to victory.

The Owls up tempo style gave MCLA fits all game long and they had 13 players score points.  Paris Wilkey led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Ali Mendel ended with 15 points on 5-8 shooting while Maddie Pond scored 14 points in just 7 minutes of action.  The Owls shot 48% from the floor and their full court pressure forced 30 MCLA turnovers.

Brooke Digennaro led all scorers with a career best 26 point night.  She added 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals.  Olivia Pressley added 11 points and Hannah Mazzeo pulled down 12 rebounds.

MCLA is off until next Saturday when they meet Framingham State continuing conference play.
