Women's Basketball, Bostick earn win over Fitchburg State 66-59

Fitchburg, MA-- MCLA's Brooke Digennaro scored a career best 31 points to lead the Trailblazer women's basketball team to a hard fought 66-59 win over the Fitchburg State Falcons.  The Trailblazers snapped a 35 game losing skid in the process while earning head coach David Bostick his first W as the leader of the program.

MCLA (1-16) is now 1-6 in the conference.  The Falcons (2-15) are 1-5 in the league.

MCLA led 17-12 after one quarter of play but the Falcons stormed back in the second quarter to take a 27-24 at the break.  The Trailblazers would trim the lead to 39-37 after three quarters to set up their fourth quarter rally.

The Falcons led 42-27 after a triple to open the frame before MCLA rallied.  Maddie Teta started the spurt with a jumper and Digennaro followed with a three point play to knot things up at 42-42.  On the next possession Digennaro would connect on a deep three to give MCLA the lead at 45-42, but still with eight minutes to play.

The teams would swap spurts and eventually the score would be tied at 53 apiece.  From there, MCLA would close the game on a 13-6 run to earn the win.  Shannon Carney gave MCLA the lead for keeps with two FT's and then buried a short jumper to put MCLA on top 57-53.  When Digennaro got out in front of the defense for another bucket, the lead was six.

Fitchburg got within three points on a Rylie Harlow three, but MCLA's Olivia Pressley stemmed the tide with another bucket to put the game away.  MCLA was never threatened the rest of the way.

Digennaro was tough to handle all night for the Falcon defense.  She went 12-25 for her career best night and completed the double double with 11 rebounds and added 4 steals.  Pressley had one of her best games of the season with 13 points and 8 boards while Maddie Teta added 10 points.

MCLA shot a season best 41% from the floor in the win and forced 26 turnovers.

The Falcons were led by Jadelen Harold and Rylie Harlow.  They each scored 16 points and had 16 and 10 rebounds respectively.  Olivia Almeida added 12 points off the bench for FSU.

MCLA is back in action at home on Friday when they host Maine Fort Kent at 5pm.  The updated spectator policy will allow fans for Friday's contest.
