Women's Basketball beaten in regular season finale by Bears

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team rolled to an 83-35 Senior Night victory over visiting MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup on Friday evening from the Tinsley Center.

The game marked the regular season finale for both teams as the Bears improve to 18-7 on the season and 10-2 (2nd place) in the MASCAC while the Trailblazers fall to 1-22 overall and 1-11 (T-6th place) in conference play. The two teams will meet again in the opening round of the MASCAC Tournament next Tuesday night.

Bridgewater is now 74-8 all-time versus MCLA dating back to the 1983-1984 campaign. The Bears have also won each of the last 22 meetings between the two teams.

Senior center Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.) tallied 22 points on 10 of 14 shooting to lead all players. Fitzgerald also pulled down nine rebounds with six coming off the offensive glass.

Senior forward Hannah Moniz (Taunton, Mass.) checked in with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot for the Bears, while senior guard Hannah Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) tallied 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Senior guard Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and also dished out four assists to go along with three points, while senior forward Maggie Hester (Braintree, Mass.) notched four points, three rebounds and four assists.

Senior guards Shannon Carney (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Olivia Pressley (Cobleskill, N.Y.) paced MCLA with ten points apiece.

The Bears led from start to finish. The host held a 26-13 lead after one and held the Trailblazers to just a pair of free throws in the second quarter as the Bears took a 44-15 advantage into the break. Fitzgerald led all players with 17 points in the first half.
