NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – MCLA Women's Basketball team dropped a 71-39 non-conference contest with the University of St. Joseph at the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium this evening. With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 10-1, and the Trailblazers dropped to 2-9. MCLA's Zaylee Ramos scored a game-high 17 points to lead all scorers, while USJ had three players reach double-digit points.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA stayed close to the nearly undefeated USJ in the first half with only a 12-3 run to close out the first period, representing the difference at halftime.
  • To open the second half, the Blue Jays switched to utilizing a full-court press more often, forcing the Trailblazers into seven third-quarter turnovers. For the game, USJ enjoyed a 13-2 advantage in points off turnovers, with most of them coming in the third quarter.
  • MCLA's Zaylee Ramos led all scorers with 17 points, adding in four rebounds, two assists, and a steal to wrap up her score sheet.
  • Sophomore Hailey Peabody recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, as well as a game-high five blocks.
  • The Blue Jays had a pair of players record double-doubles, led by Taylor Verboven, who had 16 points and 10 boards, while Jordan Ouellette had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Maya Slisz rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers for the visitors with 12 points.
  • The Trailblazers finished the game a perfect nine for nine at the free throw line, while the Blue Jays weren't bad either, shooting 82.4%, making 14 of 17 attempts.
