CHICOPEE, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Basketball Team finished up the non-conference portion of their schedule this evening when they traveled to Elms College. Hailey Peabody recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. A trio of Blazers finished with double-digit points as Elms College pulled away in the final minutes.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Thursday, January 18, 2024
  • Score: MCLA 46, Elms College 60
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 4-14 (MASCAC 1-4) | Elms College Blazers 9-7 (GNAC 3-2)

HOW IT WENT DOWN

  • The teams slowly attempted to feel each other out in the first quarter. It looked like the Trailblazers were building some momentum after Maddie Teta stole the ball and set up Kristie Zator to hit an open three, putting MCLA ahead 8-6 less than three minutes into the game. However, momentum turned out to be a cruel mistress, with Elms going on an 11-0 run to close out the first quarter.
  • The Blazers continued to grow their lead, working their advantage to as many as 19 points before the Trailblazers fought back, closing out the second quarter with a 13-4 run, including the final eight points of the half. Sophomore Hailey Peabody scored 13 of MCLA's 15 points in the quarter.
  • The teams played a perfectly even third quarter, with both teams scoring 13 points. Sophomore Kristie Zator found her touch during the frame, scoring 10 of her 18 points in the quarter.
  • The Trailblazers would get to within six points when Peabody drained a jump shot with eight minutes left in regulation but wouldn't get any closer as the Blazers began to pull away again en route to a 60-46 final score.
  • Peabody led all players with 11 rebounds and finished with a game-high 19 points. It was her highest point total since she had scored 30 points against Fitchburg on January 3rd.
  • Talia Uribe scored 18 points to lead the Blazers, who also got 15 and 10 points from Jade Lewis and Brianna Metellus, respectively. Rahmia Johnston led a five-guard lineup for Elms and pulled down 10 rebounds.
