Women’s Basketball Undone by Worcester State, 75-25

WORCESTER, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Basketball team returned to conference play this evening when they traveled to Worcester State for a MASCAC matchup at the WSU Wellness Center. Zaylee Ramos led the way with 11 points for the Trailblazers as the team fell to the Lancers by a score of 75 to 25.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Worcester State opened the game with a 12-point run that was capped by a free throw by Alana Smith with just over three minutes in the first quarter and finished the quarter with an 8-2 run.
  • The second quarter was mostly a repeat of the first, with the Lancers going on an 11-point run and closing the quarter with a 7-2 run.
  • Unfortunately for the Trailblazers, the second half looked fairly identical to the first half, with MCLA unable to find any rhythm on offense, while the Lancers frustrated them on defense, closing out the game with a 37-17 second half.
  • Sophomore guard Zaylee Ramos paced the Trailblazers with 11 points, while Hailey Peabody scored eight points and gathered a team-high five rebounds.
  • For Worcester State, a trio finished with double-digit points, led by a game-high 18 from Lena Waldron and 16 points by Katie Hurynowicz. Smith just missed recording a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.

On Saturday, MCLA will be back in action when they travel to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC matchup with the Falcons at the Fitchburg State Recreation Center. The teams will take the floor for a noon tip-off.
