Gibney scores lone goal as Women's Soccer begins season

Boston, MA- Emmanuel's Addie Legault and Kaelyn Briscoe each scored twice to lead the Saints past visiting MCLA 6-1 this afternoon in non league action.  Emmanuel evens their early season mark at 1-1 while it was the season opener for MCLA (0-1).

The game was scoreless midway through the first half before the hosts took over.  Megan McMillen got the scoring started as she put home a Legault feed for a 1-0 lead.  Eight minutes later, Briscoe notched her first goal of the afternoon knocking home an Aoife Delaney pass to extend out to a 2-0 margin. 

Just before halftime, Briscoe would collect her second tally, this off a Grace Sanpietro pass to make it 3-0 at intermission.  The host would extend the lead with a pair of goals in the second, both from Legault, to increase the margin to 5-0.

MCLA would finally get on the scoreboard as Maddie Gibney collected a goal in the 62nd minute to cut the margin to 5-1.  The Saints would add the final goal of the afternoon in the 81st minute to round out the scoring.

Emmanuel owned a 23-4 shot advantage over MCLA including a 14-3 mark on net.  Lexi Della Rocco earned the win in net stopping two shots on the afternoon.

MCLA's Jillian Currier and Mady Breese combined for 8 saves.  Currier took the loss playing the opening half.

The Trailblazers will open up play at home on Tuesday night when they host Utica at 6pm.
