Soccer edged by Sage 1-0 at Shewcraft Field

North Adams, MA-- Russell Sage's Marissa Key scored in the 49th minute to lift the visiting gators past the MCLA Trailblazers 1-0 this evening in non-conference action at Shewcraft Field.  The Gators are now 2-1-1 on the early season.  MCLA dips to 0-3.

The first half was scoreless as MCLA's Jillian Currier kept Sage off the scoreboard.  The Gators controlled much of the offensive action throughout the opening 45 minutes, but it remained scoreless even though Sage held a 15-4 shot advantage.

Early in the second half, Key and the Gators finally broke through.  She would convert the game winner off a feed from Samantha Schmidt to put the Gators up 1-0.

Sage would control all the action in the second half as they held the hosts without a shot attempt in the closing 45 minutes.

Kierstin Lynch (2-0) played the second half in goal for Sage to earn the win.  Mickaela Buzzy played the first half.  Neither keeper was forced to make a save.

MCLA's Mady Breese absorbed the loss stopping four second half shots.  Currier played the first half and collected 4 saves.

The Trailblazers are back in action Tuesday when they head to St. Joseph (CT) for another non-league tilt.
