MCLA  Battles Mass Maritime to Scoreless Draw

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Women's soccer hosted MCLA for Maritime Homecoming weekend on Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers fired a barrage of shots at the visiting Trailblazers but were unable to score in 110 minutes of play as the game ended in a scoreless draw.

The Basics

For The Bucs

  • Junior Captain Julia Podchaiski  took 10 shots in the game, six on target. Junior Captain Julia Quindley took seven shots, four on goal. Freshman Taylor Blanton  also took seven shots, three at goal.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Lindsy Durgin  posted her fourth clean sheet of the season, making four saves to keep the Trailblazers off the board. 
  • The Buccaneers took 32 shots total with 18 on target. The Bucs also compiled 16 corners.

For The Trailblazers

  • Haley Rode led the offense for MCLA with two shots, both on target.
  • Jillian Currier made 18 saves in goal in the scoreless draw. It was Currier's first career shutout. 
  • MCLA took six shots total, four on target. Five of the six shots came in the first half of regulation.

How It Happened

The first half of play saw 14 shots from the teams, nine by the Bucs. The goalies made a combined eight saves in the first 45 minutes of play. Though the Bucs kept shooting and kept the possession in their offensive third for most of the half, the scored stayed 0-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Bucs took 18 shots, 10 on target, and were unable to find the back of the net. They also took five corners in the second half, nine in 90 minutes of regulation. MCLA only mustered one shot on goal in the second half and the game remained scoreless after 90 minutes. 

In overtime, the Bucs took five more shots in the 20 minutes of extra time. They also took seven corners but again, were unable to find the back of the net. MCLA held strong and the game ended in a scoreless draw.

What's Next

The Buccaneers will host Curry College on Tuesday, October 6th at 7pm. MCLA will host Framingham State next Saturday, October 9th at 12pm.
