Soccer downed by Castleton in non league action

Castleton, VT- The Castleton University women's soccer team scored in the opening minute of play and never looked back as they cruised past the MCLA Trailblazers 7-0 this evening at Dave Wolk Stadium.  The Spartans improve to 8-4-4 on the season.  MCLA slips to 0-12-1.

Castleton's Rylee Nichols was the offensive catalyst early on.  In the opening minute of play she would rip a shot that MCLA keeper Jill Currier stopped, however the rebound went directly to Jamie Barrett who capitalized and it was 1-0 just 58 seconds into the game.

Nichols wasn't done as she would tally her 10th and 11th goals of the season in the opening half.  At the 10 minute mark, she would convert off a feed from Julia Carone to increase the lead to 2-0.  Seven minutes later the duo would connect again to make it 3-0 in favor of the Spartans.

Not to be outdone, Carone would find the back of the net in the 26th minute to round out the first half scoring.  Castleton led 4-0 at halftime and never looked back.

In the second half, Castleton would add goals from Jordan Mattison and a pair from Chase Livesey to round out the scoring.

Currier made 11 saves in the first half of play for MCLA.  Mady Breese played the second half in goal and ended with 8 saves.

MCLA will wrap up their season on Saturday with a trip to Bridgewater State at 5pm.
