Volleyball falls 3-1 to Worcester in MASCAC action

Worcester, MA- Worcester State's Natalie Gillis collected a match best 19 kills and added 19 digs to lead the Lancers to a key 3-1 MASCAC win over the visiting MCLA Trailblazers this evening.  The Lancers improve to 6-12 overall but more importantly are 4-0 in the league.

MCLA falls to 7-8 on the season and sits at 2-2 in the conference.

Worcester opened up a 24-17 lead in the opening set until MCLA rallied.  They would rattle off five straight points to pull within 25-22, but the Lancers got a set ending kill from Megan Bardis to take the opener 25-22.

The Lancers would control the second set and eventually win 25-21 to go up 2-0.

MCLA would not go quietly however as they earned a 25-22 third set win to extend the match.  Reagan Scattergood would collect the final kill to push to a fourth set.

In the fourth set, MCLA trailed 23-17 but would score two straight on another Scattergood kill and an ace from Natasha Stewart to close with 23-19, but could get no closer.  The Lancers would end the match on an attack error from the Trailblazers to earn the key win.

Worcester's Gillis was outstanding collecting her 19 kills on 52 attacks to pace the hitters.  Angela Colonis and Gabby Alberghini each ended with 9 kills.  Colonis chipped in with a team best 23 assists.  On defense, Sarah Ward notched at team best 20 digs.  Five other Lancers ended in double figure digs.

For MCLA, Scattergood and Chloie Garber each ended with 15 kills.  Both would complete double doubles with 10 and 15 digs respectively.  Natasha Stewart ended with 35 assists for MCLA while Ellie Walter-Goodspeed finished with 31 digs.

The Trailblazers return home on Thursday when they take on Sage at 6pm.
