MCLA Baseball nets $2300 for the JDRF
On Saturday, April 25 the MCLA Baseball team took on MASCAC
rival Salem State College. With assistance from the Student
Athlete Advisory Committee and Choices
Program, the team held a fundraiser in support of the
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The
event was a rousing success as the day yielded just over $2300 in
donations. The involved programs donated all proceeds from
concessions, a 50/50 raffle, and other various fan day gimmicks to
the JDRF.
The JDRF is the world’s largest charitable funder and
advocate for type I diabetes research. As many as 3 million
Americans have type I diabetes. The mission of the JDRF is to find
a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of
research. Type I diabetes can strike suddenly as evidenced by the
15,000 children diagnosed in the U.S. per year. That is an average
of 40 children per day! Over 85% of the JDRF’s expenditures
directly support research for finding a cure.
Coach Puleri expressed tremendous appreciation; "The baseball team
and I would like to thank everyone who supported such an inspiring
event. From our sponsors to our volunteers, none of this would be
possible without your efforts. We can only hope that we made a
difference in some children’s lives through this event."
