New earns MASCAC Pitcher of the Week honors

MASCAC Weekly Report

North Adams, MA- MCLA senior left hander Bobby New (Pittsfield, MA) was named the MASCAC pitcher of the week as announced by the league offices this afternoon.  Nicholas Cordeau of Fitchburg State was selected as the conference's player of the week, while Worcester State's Andrew Miller collected rookie honors.

The honor is the first for New this season as he was outstanding in a doubleheader sweep of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday.  He tossed a three hitter with 9 strikeouts in MCLA's opening 5-1 win over the Dolphins.  He surrendered just the lone run and retired the last 11 batters he faced.

The Trailblazers found themselves down in the nightcap, but MCLA would score four straight runs to pull even at 4-4 and eventually take a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.  From there, New would come on and record the save.  He was dominant in that frame as he struck out the side increasing his weekly total to 12 K's.

New has already appeared in three of MCLA's five games and figures to play a prominent role in next week's Florida swing.  The Trailblazers open up a nine game slate on Friday with a doubleheader against SUNY Purchase in Auburndale, FL.
