Davenport, FL—The MCLA Baseball team split a doubleheader this afternoon against Maine-Farmington at the RussMatt Tournament. The Trailblazers took the opener 9-7 but fell in game two, 5-4. MCLA now sits at 4-2 while the Beavers are 1-1.

Game One         MCLA 9               Farmington 7

Farmington would jump out to an early 2-0 lead on Ryan Sargent's (2-for-4, 2 RBI's) two-run homer in the top of the 1st. MCLA's Michael Wormuth (2-for-2, 5 RBI's) would top that with a 3-run homer of his own in the bottom of the 2nd to put the Trailblazers up 3-2 after two.

Not to be outdone, Sam Parsell's (2-for 4, 2 RBI's) 3-run homer in the top of the 3rd would put the Beavers back on top, 5-3.

MCLA would answer in the bottom half of the 3rd as Jayco Pena and Wormuth would both drive in a pair of runs and the Trailblazers would score 5 to move ahead 8-5.

Farmington would score runs in both the 4th and 6th innings to cut the margin to 8-7 but Clarence Givhans would take the mound for MCLA in the top of the 7th and put the Beavers down to earn his first save of the season and preserve the win.

Rob Correia (W, 1-0) made the start for MCLA going 3 1/3 innings allowing 6 earned runs on six hits. Farmington's Aaron Goschke (L, 0-1) went 3 innings allowing 9 earned runs on six hits.

Game Two         Farmington 5     MCLA 4

Austin Rachiele (1-for-3, RBI) led off game two with a home run and MCLA would score one run in each of the first three innings.

In the bottom of the 2nd a Derek Gendreau double would drive in Farmington's first run and three batters later, Hunter LaBossier (1-for-4, 2 RBI's) would drive in two more.

Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 4th, Ryan Sargent (1-for-4, RBI) would hit his second homer on the day to put the Beavers up 4-3. An inning later the Farmington would add what would prove to be an important insurance run to go ahead 5-3.

Brady Hamel's (2-for-3) double would drive in Wormuth in the top of the 5th to trim the Farmington lead to 5-4. However, Anthony Boyle would keep the Trailblazers off the board the rest of the way to earn the save and the Beaver's first win on the season.
