Hot Trailblazer offense leads Baseball past Colby-Sawyer, 13-7

Davenport, FL—Five Trailblazers had multi-hit games tonight fueling the MCLA offense to capture a 13-7 win over Colby-Sawyer this evening in the RussMatt Invitational. With the win the Trailblazers improve to 5-2 while the Chargers fall to 2-5.

Following back-to-back base hits by Jayco Pena (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI's) and Ty Mazzeo (1-for-4, 1 R), a Justin Hernandez (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI's) double down the left-field line would put MCLA up 2-0. Two batters later a ground rule double by Austin Rachiele (3-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI's) would make it 3-0 after two.

Colby-Sawyer would get one back off a Cooper O'Brien solo shot in the top of the 4th but a Rachiele three-run homerun, followed later in the inning by a Randy Adams (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI's) two-run blast would make it 8-1 Trailblazers after four.

The Pioneers would make a push scoring four runs in the top of the 6th cutting the lead to 8-5 but again MCLA would respond with three more runs to stretch the lead to 11-5.

A Pena double in the bottom of the 8th that scored Noel Medina and Adams would give the Trailblazers all the insurance they would need. A half a dozen walks by MCLA pitching in the top of the 9th would make things interesting, but they would hold on for the 13-7 win.

Ian Turpel (2-for-5, 2 RBI's) and Zach Rogers (2-for-4, 2 RBI's) led the Colby-Sawyer offensive effort. Pioneer starting pitcher Dylan Watson (L, 0-1) allowed 8 earned runs on nine hits, striking out four in the loss.

MCLA starting pitcher Nate Morse (W, 1-0) went 5 1/3 innings allowing 3 earned runs on four hits, striking out three batters.

Colby-Sawyer will next take on Curry College tomorrow at 9:45am and 11:45am while MCLA battles Maine-Presque-Isle on Wednesday at 9:15am and 12pm.
