Bridgewater State completes weekend sweep over Baseball

Bridgewater, Mass.— Bridgewater State erupted for a combined 41 runs in today's doubleheader against MCLA as the Bears took both games and completed a three-game sweep of the weekend series over the Trailblazers. Bridgewater took game one 7-1 and game two 34-7. With the results the Bears improve to 13-5 (3-0 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 6-10 (0-3 MASCAC).

Noel Medina's (2-for-3, RBI) base hit in the top of the 3rd would score Austin Rachiele (1-for-3) to break the scoreless tie and give MCLA a 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold up until the bottom of the 5th when Bridgewater State's Riley Thornell (3-for-4, 3RBIs) doubled to right field scoring Kevin Lindsay to tie the game at 1-1. After an error and a pair of base hits the Bears would take a 3-1 lead into the 6th.

Another double by Thornell in the bottom of the 6th would bring home two more runs and before the inning would end, the hosts would find themselves up 7-1 to take game one.

Bridgewater's Matt Josselyn (W,3-2) went the distance allowing only one unearned run on six hits while striking out five batters. MCLA starter Bryan Rosario (L, 3-3) allowed 3 runs (one earned) on seven hits striking out four batters in 4.2 innings of work.

Bridgewater State's bats would stay hot in game two. Already up 2-0 the Bears would post nine runs in the 2nd, eight runs in the 3rd and fourteen in the 4th to make it 33-1 on their way to a 34-7 win.

Eleven Bears would register at least one hit with Scott Emerson (3-for-4, 6 RBIs), Kyle Suraci (3-for-3, 4 RBI's), Sean Goudey (3-for-4, 4 RBI's), and Josh Selander (3-for-3, 2 RBI's) leading the way. Joey Molis (1-for-2, HR, 4 RBI's) and Cam James (3 R, HR, 3 RBIs) both went deep for the hosts.

For MCLA Randy Adams went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and 3 RBIs.

Bridgewater starter Shane Handrahan (W, 3-0) went 4 innings allowing one unearned run and just one hit with four strikeouts. The Trailblazers would send seven pitchers to the mound who combined to give up 20 hits and nineteen walks. Starter Clarence Givhans (L, 0-1) took the loss.

Bridgewater will be at Gordon College tomorrow at 3pm while MCLA's next game will be at Elms College on Tuesday at 7pm.
