Baseball suffers nonconference setback at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass.—The MCLA Baseball team held a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning, but Dean College would rally to score nine unanswered runs to take the nonconference decision 9-4 this afternoon at Longley Field. With the win The Bulldogs improve to 5-19 while the Trailblazers fall to 7-14.

MCLA's Austin Rachiele led the game off with a solo homerun and later in the inning, aggressive baserunning by Clarence Givhans and Randy Adams along with an RBI single by Noel Medina would give the Trailblazers a 3-0 lead after a half-inning.

Michael Wormuth would get hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 6th to score Medina to make it 4-0 but Dean would have a big answer in the bottom half scoring six runs on five hits to go ahead 6-4.

The Trailblazers couldn't muster a response in the last three innings while Dean added two more runs in the seventh and one more in the eight on their way to the 9-4 victory.

Five Bulldogs had two hits including designated hitter Andrew Sullivan who went 2-for-5 with 4 RBI.

Reliever Mason Neumann (W, 1-0) was credited with the win for Dean while MCLA's Garrett Brunette (L, 0-2) took the loss for the Trailblazers.

Dean will travel to Lesley University tomorrow while MCLA hosts MASCAC foe Framingham State on Friday at 3pm in the first of a three-game set.
