Baseball can’t catch Framingham State, fall 9-6

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—The MCLA Baseball team fell 9-6 at home today to Framingham State in the first of a three-game weekend series with the Rams. With the win Framingham State improves to 14-9 (5-2 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 7-15 (1-6 MASCAC).

Framingham State would post a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning, but Austin Rachiele's (2-for-3) lead-off triple followed by a Clarence Givhans sacrifice fly would cut the Rams lead to 2-1 after one.

The visitors would break things open in the top of the 4th pushing six runs across the plate to make it 8-1. But the Trailblazers would get two back in the home-half with Ty Mazzeo (1-for-4, RBI) and Rob Correia (2-for-3, RBI) each driving in a run and two more in the bottom of the 5th thanks to a pair of RBI doubles by Randy Adams (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Jayco Pena (3-for-4, RBI) to make it 8-5 after five.

A Cam Gilroy sacrifice fly would give the Rams an insurance run in the top of the 9th to make it 9-5. Another Adams base hit would drive in Justin Hernandez to make it 9-6 but that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get dropping the game one of the weekend series.

Ryan Boyle (3-for-5, 3 RBI) and Gilroy (3-for-4, 2 RBI) paced the Framingham offense while starting pitcher Vincent LoGuidice (W, 4-1) went six innings allowing five runs on nine hits. Nate Morse (L, 1-2) took the loss on the mound for MCLA allowing 8 runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

The teams will finish the 3-game series at Framingham State with a doubleheader tomorrow scheduled to begin at 1pm.
