Baseball one-hit at Skidmore in nonconference action

SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York—Five Skidmore pitchers would combine to allow only one hit today in a 14-0 win over MCLA in nonconference baseball action. With the win the Thoroughbreds improve to 19-9 while the Trailblazers fall to 8-18.

Skidmore would lead only 1-0 headed into the bottom of the 4th but the Thoroughbreds would post five runs, including a two-run homer by Jackson Hornung to make it 6-0.

The hosts would add four more in both the 6th and 8th innings cruising to a comfortable 14-0 nonconference decision.

Hornung (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI), Trey Bourque (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) and Danny Melilo (3-for-3, 2 RBI) led the way at the plate for Skidmore. A Matthew Belfance single in the 4th inning would prove to be MCLA's only hit.

Starting pitcher Zach Dines (W, 2-2) would strikeout four batters in four innings pitched allowing just one hit to earn the win for the Thoroughbreds. Starter Jaden Palumbo (L, 0-3) allowed six runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four batters in the losing effort.

Skidmore travels to Lewiston, Maine this weekend to take on Bates College for a three-game series while MCLA will travel to Buzzards Bay on Friday for the first game of a three-game set with MASCAC rival Mass Maritime.
