Mass Maritime completes weekend sweep taking two from Baseball today

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—The MCLA Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Mass Maritime this afternoon allowing the Buccaneers to complete the three-game weekend sweep of the Trailblazers. Maritime nipped MCLA 7-6 in the opener and shutout the Trailblazers, 10-0 in game two. With the wins the Buccaneers improve to 17-13 (7-6 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 8-21 (2-11 MASCAC).

Game One         Mass Maritime 7            MCLA 6

Trailing 5-2 after three and a half innings, MCLA would chip away to trail by one run on three different occasions including in the bottom of the 7th when Austin Rachiele's (1-for-4, HR, RBI) solo shot made it 7-6, but that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get.

Maritime's Zach Silva (3-for-4, 2 RBI), John Tropea (2-for-4) and Colin Landry (1-for-2, RBI) led the way offensively for the Bucs. Rachiele, Clarence Givhans (2-for-4), Randy Adams (1-for-4, 2 RBI) and Ty Mazzeo (2-for-2) carried the offensive load for MCLA.

Maritime's Brodey Tinkham (W,3-3) was credited with the win going 5.2 innings allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out seven batters. Brendan Baiardi (S, 4) pitched the last inning to earn the save. Trailblazer starter Bryan Rosario (L, 3-6) took the loss pitching 5.1 innings allowing six runs on nine hits.

Game Two         Mass Maritime 10          MCLA 0

Maritime used three hits, aggressive baserunning and took advantage of an MCLA error to jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st. The Bucs would add a run in both the 3rd and 4th innings before breaking the game open with four runs in the 5th to make it 9-0.

The visitors would add one more in the 7th as Maritime cruised to the 10-0 win, completing the three-game weekend series over the Trailblazers.

John Tropea (3-for-5, 2 RBI), Michael Logiudice (3-for-5, RBI), Aidan Henderson (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and AJ Pietrafesa (2-for-5, RBI) each had multi-hit games for the Bucs. Randy Adams (2-for-3) had two of MCLA's three hits in the game.

Hunter Dean (W, 3-2) pitched a three-hit, 7 inning, complete game shutout, striking out six batters to earn the win for Maritime. Matthew Belfance (L, 0-1) allowed 7 runs (5 earned) on ten hits taking the loss for the Trailblazers.

Both teams will resume play on Tuesday with MASCAC doubleheaders as the Bucs host Bridgewater State at 4pm and the Trailblazers travel to Westfield State for a 2pm start.
