Adams breaks single-season RBI mark, leads Baseball past Williams, 11-4

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— MCLA's Randy Adams went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and 5 RBI leading the Trailblazers to an 11-4 victory over Williams College this afternoon at Bobby Coombs Field. Adams now has 47 RBI on the season which currently leads the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and is a new program single-season record. With the win MCLA improves to 10-25 on the year while Williams ends its season with a 13-17 mark.

Trailing 3-0 in the top of the 5th, a two-RBI double from Clarence Givhans (2-for-4, 2 RBI) which scored Austin Rachiele (4-for-5, 3 runs scored) and Michael Wormuth (1-for-3), and an Adams groundout which brought Givhans home would draw the Trailblazers back to even at 3-3.

A Noel Medina (2-for-5, RBI) sacrifice fly and a pair of base hits from Ty Mazzeo (3-for-5, RBI) and Aidan Brett (1-for1, 2 RBI) pushed MCLA ahead by four in the top of the 7th before Williams would get one back in the home-half to make it 7-4.

But a two-RBI single in the 8th and a two-RBI double in the 9th which made it 11-4, would give Adams the new program single-season RBI mark and give MCLA their first win over Williams since April 14, 2011.

The Trailblazers used eight pitchers who collectively held the Ephs to 4 runs on nine hits while striking out four batters. Garrett Brunette (W, 1-2) was credited with the win. Williams also put eight arms on the mound who allowed a combined 11 runs (eight earned) on seventeen hits while striking out seven batters. Michael Amendola (L, 1-2) took the loss for the hosts.

MCLA will wrap up its 2023 campaign this weekend with a three-game series scheduled to begin tomorrow at Salem State and concluding Saturday with a doubleheader in North Adams.
