Westfield State Turns Back Baseball

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team met the Westfield State Owls this afternoon at Bud and Jim Hagan Field for a MASAC matchup. Four Westfield State pitchers combined to hold MCLA to only six hits, while six different Owl hitters had multi-RBI games.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

• Following a scoreless first inning, Westfield State put up a pair of crooked number innings in the second and third innings, scoring seven in the second and six in the third before putting things into cruise control for the rest of the game. The Owls still added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings while also putting up a four spot in the sixth.
• MCLA worked their lone run in the top of the sixth after Jayco Pena worked a one-out walk; two batters later, Chris Vargas brought him around to score with a double into the left-center field gap.
• Vargas had two hits, including a single in the second inning and the RBI double in the sixth.
• Edison Galan added a double into the left-center field gap in the fifth but was stranded on the basepaths.
• Westfield State's Sean McNamara struck out seven while only allowing two hits over five and two third innings to pick up the win, leveling his record at 3-3. Joshua Bissaillon took the loss for the Trailblazers, dropping his record to 1-4.

UP NEXT:

On Tuesday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to Williams College for a non-conference matchup with the EPHs at Joe Wolfe Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
