MCLA upended by unbeaten Catholic University 85-71

Landover, MD- The MCLA Trailblazers opened up second semester play with an 85-71 setback to unbeaten Catholic University in the opening round of the Catholic Classic.  The loss was MCLA's fourth straight as they dropped to 2-9 on the season.  Catholic remains unbeaten at 11-0.

Trailblazer Chris Harris had a team high 17 points.  Tyriq Rochester added 12 while Tyrell Mosley chipped in with 10.

Catholic was paced by Steve Limberiou's 19 points while Shawn Holmes contributed 18.  Nate Koenig added 14 and Chris Kearney had 11.

Catholic broke open a close game in the opening half.  With the score tied at 24 apiece, the hosts used a 15-5 run to close the half en route to a 39-29 halftime edge.  MCLA trimmed the lead to seven points at 48-41 following a Michael Young triple with 14:45 to play, but Catholic responded with back to back buckets pushing the lead back to 11.

MCLA would cut the lead to seven on a pair of occasions in later in the game, but each time Catholic responded.  The lead grew to as many as 16 before settling on the final score.

MCLA awaits the loser of the Buffalo State/Wesleyan (CT) game tomorrow at 1pm.
