MCLA drops opening game of Tournament of Heroes to Staten Island 83-52

Staten Island, NY- The MCLA Men's Basketball team dropped their opening game of the Tournament of Heroes to host Staten Island 83-52.  The Trailblazers fall to 3-7 overall.  The host Dolphins placed four players in double figures to earn the win and improve to 6-1 overall.

MCLA's John Jones was the only Trailblazer in double figures finishing with 17 points.  The Trailblazers will now move on to the consolation game, battling SUNY-IT tomorrow at 1pm.

After a back and forth start and the game tied at 15, Staten Island quickly seized control.  The Dolphins used a 25-6 spurt to grab a commanding 40-21 lead.  They would cruise into the locker room with a 43-28 halftime advantage.

Any thoughts of an MCLA comeback were quickly dashed as Staten Island went on a 9-0 run to turn a 48-33 lead into a 57-33 margin with 12:53 to play.  MCLA would get no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Jones collected his 17 points on just 6-17 shooting.  He did add 5 boards and 5 steals.  MCLA was hampered by a 26% shooting effort on the night, including just 21% in the second half.  The Trailblazers were also forced into 22 turnovers.

The Dolphins were led by Jon Chadwick-Myers who finished with 18 points, including 4 three pointers.  Bloochy Magloire ended the night with 17 points.  Staten Island also recieved a pair of double doubles.  Dylan Bulger ended with 12 points and 12 rebounds to collect his, while teammate Matthew Van Manen finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Staten Island owned a 48-39 edge on the glass.
