Men's Basketball defeated at NYU 83-62

Manhattan, NY- The New York University Men's basketball team stormed out of the gates scoring the first 16 points and never looked back in a convincing 83-62 win over the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon at the Coles Sports Center.  NYU improves to 3-0 on the season while the Trailblazers are now 2-2 overall.

MCLA missed their first ten shots from the field as NYU built their early lead.  It wasn't until Ruben DelRosario scored with just under 14 minutes left in the half that MCLA got on the board.  NYU would continue to stretch the lead moving out to a 31-9 lead on Costis Gontikas' layup before MCLA would try to slice into the deficit.

The Trailblazers used a 13-4 run to cut the margin to 13 points at 35-22 with 2:40 left to play in the opening half, however MCLA wouldn't score again and NYU took a 37-22 lead into the locker room.

Any thoughts of a Trailblazer comeback were tarnished early in the second half as NYU outscored MCLA 16-3 out of the locker room to take an insurmountable 53-25 lead.  The Trailblazers would not get any closer than 22 points the rest of the way.

MCLA was paced by DelRosario's 12 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting afternoon.  Jeremic Bennett led the Trailblazers with 13 points off the bench, while John Jones finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

NYU was led by Gontikas' game high 21 points.  Evan Kupferberg was also in double figures with 18 points.

MCLA shot poorly connecting on just 28% of their attempts while NYU finished at 50%.

The Trailblazers will be back in action on Tuesday when they battle Nichols College on the road.
