MCLA Men drop opening game of Spounagle Tournament to Franklin and Marshall

Lancaster, PA- The MCLA Men's Basketball team resumed their 2013-14 season Thursday night as they traveled to Franklin and Marshall to compete in the Spounagle Holiday Hoops Tournament.  The hosts cruised to a 76-51 win over the Trailblazers to advance to the championship round.

MCLA, who is now 2-8 overall, will challenge Hobart College in the consolation round tomorrow.

The Trailblazers took the lead on the opening basket, however they quickly found themselves in a huge first half hole.  Franklin and Marshall used a 21-5 spurt early on to take an 26-9 lead and never looked back.  Later in the half, the hosts went on a 14-0 run to take a 43-14 lead.  MCLA would trail at halftime 49-18.

MCLA would get no closer than 20 points the rest of the way.

Ramon Viches led the Trailblazers with 14 points, while Jeremic Bennett added 11.

Franklin and Marshall was paced by Jon Salandra's game high of 18 points.  Terrell Phelps added 15, while Cedric Moune and Morgan Lee each finished with 12.

MCLA shot just 33% from the floor in the losing effort.
