Men's Basketball suffers loss to SVC in Tri State Shootout

TROY, N.Y. – Southern Vermont College (SVC) went on a 26-0 run early in the second half to take a 73-29 lead and the Mountaineers went on to defeat Mass. College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) 106-44 in a first round game of the Tri-State Shootout hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The Mountaineers improve to 6-2 and advance to play the host Engineers in the championship game on Sunday at 3pm at ECAV Arena. MCLA falls to 2-7 and faces Vermont Tech. on Sunday at 1pm in the consolation game.

SVC also defeated the Trailblazers in the season opener for both programs.

SVC led 41-19 at halftime, but the Trailblazers scored 10 of the first 13 points of the second half, forcing the Mountaineers to call a timeout. Following that break, Southern Vermont scored the next 26 points of the game for a 44-point lead, 73-29, behind 10 points from William Bromirski. Davante Jordan added nine points in the stretch.

Bromirski finished with a game-high 27 points to lead five players in double figures. Jordan had 13 points and DeShawn Hamlet had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Khalil Paul led MCLA in scoring with 17 points, while Dakari Hannah-Wornum had 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Trailblazers game tomorrow represents the last contest of the fall semester.
