Lawrence paces Golf with 77 at NAC Championships after first round

Bangor, ME- The MCLA men's golf program opened up play this afternoon in the NAC Championships.  The 36 hole event will conclude tomorrow as the Trailblazers are currently 7th in the standings.

Husson took a two-stroke lead after shooting a team score of 289 (+5).  MCLA shot a 337 in the opening round led by Matt Lawrence's 77.  Nick Bator shot an 82 while Josh Fortier carded an 85 to lead the Trailblazers.

The Eagles, who have won ten of the last 12 NAC titles, held off a late surge by Salem State, as the Vikings finished the opening round just two strokes back with a score of 291. UMaine-Farmington came home 14 strokes back with a 303, followed by Castleton (310), Johnson State (320) and Maine Maritime (320). MCLA and Green Mountain concluded the first-day standings with respective totals of 337 and 391.

Salem State's Chad Alibozek sits atop the leaderboard after the first round with a 68, three strokes under par, followed by Husson's Daulton Wickenden who shot a round of 69. Viking teammate Ryan Swart is in third with a 70, while Castleton's Zachary Temple and Husson's Mackenzie Clow rounded out the top five with scores of 71 and 72 respectively.

Husson's Taylor Morang and Philip Thome, and UMF's Michael Richard and Trevor Hisler are all tied for sixth after shooting a 74, while UMF's Eric Aguiarand Salem State's Nick Stone rounded out the top ten as they are tied for tenth after shooting rounds of 75.

The second round of the 2016 NAC Championship will get underway on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with Green Mountain and MCLA teeing off first. Those two schools will be followed by Johnson State, Maine Maritime and Castleton before UMaine-Farmington, Salem State, and Husson pair up for the final rounds of the day.
