Men’s Hockey Earns 2-2 Stalemate with Fitchburg State in Season Opener

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— It was an exciting night of back-and-forth action as the MCLA Men's Hockey team played its first game in more than 20 years and came away with a 2-2 tie against Fitchburg State this evening at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Arena.

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trailing 1-0 after Fitchburg State's Hunter Dunn scored just after the midway point of the first period, Connor Nagy scored the Trailblazers' first-ever MASCAC goal at the 12:33 mark of the first period. Cody White was credited with the assist.
  • With just under four minutes remaining in the second period, the Falcons' Antoine Gignac scored a power-play goal that Oliver Cookson assisted.
  • Just after the quarter point in the third period, MCLA's Addam Brunner again leveled the score at two goals apiece. Nagy provided the assist on the game-tying effort.
  • The Trailblazers' Mathew Gover came through with a strong collegiate debut, making 41 saves on 43 shots on goal, including six saves in the overtime period.
