WORCESTER, Mass. — The MCLA Men's Hockey team faced off with the Worcester State Lancers this afternoon as part of the ECHL Railers' Growing the Game efforts at the DCU Center. The Trailblazers got the game within a single score with 37 seconds left on the clock but couldn't find the equalizer.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Worcester State scored the game's first goal just after the 11-minute mark of the first period. The goal was credited to Evan Armit (assists from Spencer Hecklinger and Luc Fricchione).
  • The Trailblazers responded with just over four minutes left on the first-period clock. It was Christopher Gallagher scoring his first collegiate goal, the helpers were credited to Easton Moore and Connor Nagy.
  • The second period belonged to the Lancers as they scored two more goals in the frame. The scorers were Martin Dlugolinsky (Anders Grongstad and Maxwell Tucker), and Tucker (Grongstad).
  • For the third consecutive period, Worcester State scored first, this time extending their lead to 4-1 with a goal by Brendan Ronan (Christian Phinney).
  • MCLA would get back to within a pair of goals as the clock wound down under five minutes. The second goal was credited to Cody White from Colin Ogborn. The goal was the first of White's career while the assist marked the first collegiate point for Ogborn.
  • The Trailblazers cut the lead to one after MCLA head coach Jeremiah Ketts had pulled his goalie in place of an extra skater. Cade Herrera lit the lamp when he put home the rebound of a shot from Alex Ferris from just inside the blue line. The goal was Herrera's team-leading sixth of the year, while the assist was Ferris' first collegiate point.
  • The Lancers added an empty net goal by Cody Porcello (Matthew Kowal) with 32 seconds left in the game.

UP NEXT:

Following a four-week layoff, MCLA will be back in action on January 4th, when they travel to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC matchup with the Falcons at the Wallace Civic Center. The puck will drop at 6:30 p.m.
