Men's Ice Hockey Late Comeback Falls Short in 4-2 Loss to UMass-Dartmouth

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— The MCLA Men's Ice Hockey team played their first home game since returning from winter break this evening at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Memorial Rink. UMass-Dartmouth got two goals from Tyler Stewart and a goal each from Brandon Clark and Collin Patterson in a 4-2 win over the Trailblazers. The MCLA goals were scored by Sean Neu and Luke Rhoss.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA scored the first goal of the game with just over 10 and a half minutes left on the first-period clock. Sean Neu recorded his first goal of his career when he snapped off a shot from the left slot that went over the goalie's left shoulder. Assists were credited to Nathan Walerowicz and Charlie Addesa.
  • About 90 seconds later, the Corsairs responded with a goal of their own by Tyler Stewart (4th of the year, assisted by Collin Patterson & Billy McDevitt). The goal would be the final score of the first period, to send the teams into the first intermission tied at 1.
  • In the second period, UMass-Dartmouth enjoyed a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal and turned that into a pair of unanswered goals by Brandon Clark (1st, Lane Ruffner and Stephon Perreault) and Collin Patterson (5th, Alex Walker and Michael Perrone).
  • The Trailblazers got back to within a goal when Luke Rhoss found the back of the net for his 5th goal of the season just over six minutes into the third period. Neu was credited with the assist.
  • MCLA continued to push for an equalizer but were turned away by the Corsair's Daniel Davidson despite outshooting the visitors 11-5 from the time of the Rhoss Goal until Stewart knocked in an empty net goal with 65 seconds remaining.
  • With the win, UMass-Dartmouth's Davidson improved his record to 7-6-0, while MCLA's Mathew Gover fell to 1-7-1.
