WESTFIELD, Mass. – The MCLA Men's Ice Hockey team returned to action this evening, taking on MASCAC foe Westfield State at the Amelia Park Ice Rink in Westfield. It was a chippy game, with both teams combining for 48 penalty minutes on 16 penalties. Mathew Gover stopped 25 shots but was outdueled by Westfield's Kevin Chandler, who stopped all 27 shots he faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Westfield State scored a pair of goals in the first period. The first came just under six minutes left in the frame and was credited to Emile Pichette (at 14:13, assisted by Christopher Miraldo and Gianluca Marini). The second came with seven seconds left in the period and was scored by Brett Williams (19:53, Julian Boisclair and Tomas Muller).
  • A scoreless second period left the score at 2-0 until Miraldo scored an unassisted goal 1:25 into the third period.
  • MCLA's Mathew Gover made 25 saves on 28 shots but still saw his record drop to 1-10-1. The 28 shots faced tied for the lowest number that Gover has faced this season, matching the total from the UMass-Dartmouth game on November 3rd.
  • Westfield State's Kevin Chandler stopped all 27 shots he faced and improved his record to 5-3-1.
  • The 24 penalty minutes represented a season-high for the Trailblazers while only tied for the fourth-highest total of the season for the Owls. It was the fifth time Westfield had exceeded 20 minutes in penalties this season.
