Men’s Lacrosse dominant in NAC season opener, rout Cazenovia 23-2

Morrisville, NY—Tied 1-1 just a minute in, the MCLA Men's Lacrosse team proceeded to score 20 straight goals on their way to a 23-2 rout of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Cazenovia College this afternoon in a game played at Morrisville State College. With the win the Trailblazers improve to 4-2 (1-0 NAC) while the Wildcats fall to 0-1 (0-1 NAC).

MCLA removed all doubt early in this one as Nathan Haley scored 5 of his game high six goals helping the Trailblazers to an 11-1 lead after one period of play.

The visitors would score five in the 2nd, three in the 3rd and two more in the 4th quarter to make it 21-1 before Cazenovia's Cameron Hovater scored to stop the run with 2:16 left. MCLA would add two more before the final horn for the 23-2 final.

Matthew Wallace finished with 5 goals and four assists. Anthony Andolina and Matt Ortiz both tallied hattricks while Boden Dock chipped in a pair of goals and an assist.

Hunter Ballard (L, 0-1) and Jeff Viviano spilt duties between the pipes for the Wildcats facing 40 MCLA shots. Trailblazers' goalie John Hankel (W, 4-2) allowed only two goals while making nine saves.

MCLA dominated in virtually every statistical category including total shots (55-16), face-offs (22-7), ground balls (29-13) and caused turnovers (28-17).

League play continues next for both teams as Cazenovia travels to SUNY Canton on Wednesday at 6:30pm while MCLA returns home next Saturday to take on Maine Maritime at 12pm.
