NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— Despite an impressive third quarter push and five goals each by MCLA's Luke Rhoss (Monroe, NY) and Nathan Haley (North Adams, MA) it was the visiting Anna Maria College AMCATS who left a rain soaked Shewcraft Field this afternoon with a 20-13 nonconference decision to earn their first win of the season.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: March 2, 2024
  • Score: Anna Maria College 20 MCLA 13
  • Records: Anna Maria College 1-4-0 MCLA 0-2-0

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Anna Maria's Nathan Powers (Putney, VT) won the opening faceoff and skidded a shot from distance that put the AMCATS up 1-0 just five seconds into the match.
  • MCLA's Nathan Haley drew the Trailblazers even just past the midpoint of the quarter, but a Spencer Carpenter (Castleton, NY) goal just 1:15 later gave Anna Maria the lead and kicked off a four-goal run to make it 5-1 with just over three and a half minutes left in the quarter.
  • Sean Neu's (Wake Forest, NC) marker from Anthony Andolina (Ballston Spa, NY) at the 2:04 mark momentarily stopped the bleeding, but the AMCATS closed out the stanza with two more goals to make it 7-2 after one.
  • Neu and Rhoss both scored for MCLA as the teams traded the first four goals in the second, but Anna Maria again scored the final two giving the visitors an 11-4 advantage at the half.
  • The AMCATS kept the pressure on out of the break stretching their lead to 16-5 after back-to-back goals by Eric Farrell (Milford, MA) but the Trailblazers closed the quarter on a 5-0 run which included three Rhoss tallies to cut the deficit to 16-10 after three.
  • Rhoss opened the fourth quarter with his 5th goal on the day to make it 16-11 but that was as close as the hosts would get as Anna Maria outscored MCLA 4-2 the rest of the way to earn their first win of the season, 20-13.
