CASTINE, Maine – The MCLA lacrosse team continued their run of North Atlantic Conference opponents this afternoon when they traveled north to meet Maine Maritime Academy. MMA were less than hospitable hosts, with 14 different Mariners scoring goals en route to a 29-5 shellacking of the Trailblazers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MMA set the tone early, scoring within the first 10 seconds of the game after Bryce Cowell won the opening faceoff and then assisted Alex Stevens with the first goal in what would be a four-goal game.
  • MCLA's Anthony Adolina evened the score at a goal apiece, scoring an unassisted goal with just under three minutes off the clock.
  • This would be as close as the Trailblazers would get as the Mariners responded with three more goals before Luke Rhoss scored to get back within in two goals with just over eight minutes left in the quarter.
  • Following the Rhoss goal, MMA scored 15 unanswered points, leading 9-2 after one quarter,18-2 at halftime, and tagged on an additional goal to open the third frame.
  • Rhoss added a second unassisted tally early in the third quarter, as the teams each scored a goal in the first thirty seconds of the new half.
  • The Mariners responded with five more goals before Nathan Haley scored his 17th goal of the season with an assist from Andolina with a bit of six minutes left in the quarter.
  • One more goal from Myles Mayhew-Reilly gave the hosts a 25-4 advantage through three quarters, and four more goals in the fourth quarter brought their total to 29.
  • In the game's dying seconds, Haley added his second goal of the day, giving him his sixth multi-goal game of the season.
  • Three MMA goalies combined to make 10 saves on 15 shots, with Will Farrell picking up his first collegiate win while improving to 1-0 for the season. Neal Brierley made 17 stops but still saw his record fall to 0-2.
