MCLA boots NEC behind pair of McCall goals

North Adams- The MCLA Men's Soccer team defeated New England College this afternoon by a score of 4-0 at Shewcraft Field.  MCLA was led by freshman Jake McCall (Lincoln, RI), who notched his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season as well as adding an assist in the victory.  Senior Evan Coe (Hopewell Jct., NY) and Junior Adam Tarsa (Adams, MA) combined on the shutout as the Trailblazers improved to 3-0 on the season heading into conference play.

The Trailblazers wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as senior Joe Deady (Belchertown, MA) headed home a rebound off a shot from McCall just 3 minutes into the contest.  McCall would net his first of the afternoon just four minutes later, heading home a beautifully played cross from fellow freshman Jordan Hoofnagle (Peabody, MA).  The 2-0 advantage held up through the half as MCLA outshot NEC 10-3 in the stanza.

McCall would need just 17 seconds to score his second of the day as he knocked home a Liroy Ozinci (Plainview, NY) shot.  MCLA controlled the play for much of the second half as they registered 13 shots in the half.  Sophomore Mike Rowland (Corinth, NY) would round out the scoring as he headed home his first collegiate goal off of a great pass from Alex Levine (Long Island, NY).

Defensively, the Trailblazers were solid all day.  Coe was steady in net registering 5 saves on the afternoon.  He was aided by strong defensive play by the MCLA back line.  Tarsa relieved Coe late in the second half to complete the shutout.

MCLA returns to the pitch on Saturday when they open MASCAC play traveling to Bridgewater State College.
