MCLA battles Worcester to 0-0 tie in MASCAC action

North Adams- The MCLA Men's Soccer team and Worcester State battled to a scoreless tie this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.   With the tie, MCLA moves to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the MASCAC.  Worcester State falls to 1-6-2, and earns their second consecutive draw in the league.

Worcester was the aggressor in the first half as they had more quality scoring chances than the Trailblazers.  Senior keeper Evan Coe (Hopewell Jct, NY) made a few sprawling saves to keep the zero on the board.  MCLA had few opportunities in the first half.  The second half saw a back and forth affair as each team had some looks from close range.  Both keepers made sure the shutout remained in tact.

In the first overtime, both the Trailblazers and Lancers had a great chance to earn the victory.  MCLA had the first opportunity.  With just under three minutes to play in the first overtime, Casey Baker (Pittsfield, MA) broke free on the left wing.  He fired from 15 yards out causing Lancer keeper Evan Wilga to go hard to his right earning the save.  As close as that was, Worcester had a great chance with under 20 seconds remaining as a cross Miguel Vidal was loose in front of the MCLA net.   A few Lancers attempted to make a play at the loose ball, but they could not find the net.

The final 10 minutes saw Worcester outshoot MCLA 5-1, but only one shot between the two teams were on goal.  For the afternoon, MCLA was outshot 25-18, while Worcester held a decisive edge in corner kicks, 13-1.  Coe registered 11 saves, while his counterpart Wilga earned 9.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday as they take on Green Mountain.
