MCLA Men fall at Framingham

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State College men's soccer team improved to 4-1 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action today with a 3-1 win over the MCLA Trailblazers this morning at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Rams improve their overall record to 6-7-1, while the loss drops the Trailblazers to 6-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference.

The Rams held an 11-5 shot advantage in the first half but were not able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity until just before the break.  In the 40th minute junior Jared Curry (Westboro, Mass.) launched a direct kick at the far post and freshman Bryan Damas (Milford, Mass.) sped in and knocked it home for his first collegiate goal.

The Rams would extend their lead to two goals in the 55th minute as junior back Joel Kayima (Malden, Mass.) popped the ball over the Trailblazers defense and forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, Mass.) collected the ball and fired a shot at a difficult angle into the back of the net for his team leading seventh goal of the season.

Just ten minutes later, Framingham State extended their lead to 3-0 as midfield Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.) sent a direct kick into the box that sophomore Peter Maranto (Haverhill, Mass.) deflected past the MCLA goalkeeper for his first marker of the season.

MCLA picked up their offensive pressure and were able to break into the scoring column in the 80th minute as freshman Jake McCall (Lincoln, R.I.) scored an unassisted goal.  That was as close as the Trailblazers would get as the Rams held them at bay for the final ten minutes.

Junior Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) made seven saves in net for the Rams and picked up the win, while senior Evan Coe (Hopewell Jct., N.Y.) made six saves for the Trailblazers and kept them within striking distance.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they host Keene State at 3:30 p.m., while the Trailblazers travel to Southern Vermont on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
