Sullivan nets a pair in leading MCLA past Castleton 2-1

North Adams, MA- MCLA sophomore forward George Sullivan tallied a goal in each half in leading the Trailblazers to a hard fought 2-1 victory over visiting Castleton State.  With the victory, MCLA moves to 4-2-1 on the season, while Castleton falls to 3-4.

Sullivan notched the game winner in the 73rd minute of play.  Patrick Endy sent a nice through pass to Ryan Shewchuk who crossed to Sullivan for the goal.  The goal was Sullivan's third of the season.  Castleton tried to attack in the late minutes, but many of their scoring chances sailed high or wide.

MCLA opened the scoring in the first half as George Sullivan headed home his second goal of the season.  Sullivan took a cross from Luke Davis and converted for a 1-0 advantage in the 16th minute.

Castleton would become more aggressive following the quick score and controlled play for the remainder of the half.  The Spartans would eventually use that edge to tie the game in the 33rd minute as leading scorer Josh Costa tallied his seventh goal of the season.  Costa took a forward pass from Billy Lund and beat MCLA keeper Adam Tarsa.

Both teams would have quality chances to break the tie before intermission, but neither could find the back of the net.

Tarsa would earn the win in net stopping 11 shots while his counterpart, Nate Koenemann stopped 5.  Castleton would finish with a 25-12 shot advantage.

MCLA will travel to Salem on Saturday for a MASCAC tilt.
