Trailblazers Shutout Bucs

Trailblazers Shutout Bucs

North Adams, MA - The MCLA Trailblazers and Mass. Maritime Buccaneers hooked up on Saturday for a typical physical match between the two institutions.

The Trailblazers executed coach Adam Hildabrands' defensive game plan perfectly and walked away with a 3-0 victory in a game that was closer than the final would indicate.  Mass Maritime attempted twenty-one shots on the game, but got very few scoring chances as the MCLA defense kept them on the outside most of the afternoon.

The Trailblazers (5-4-1. 2-1) used an opportunistic offensive attack and made the most of their chances. The Trailblazers went up 1-0 when George Sullivan took a nifty endline feed from Luke Davis and beat Buccaneer goalie Brett Young. The play originated at mid-field when Israel Diaz played it ahead nicely to a streaking Davis.

The Trailblazers went up 2-0 with three minutes left in the half when Jake McCall walked in alone from thirty-five yards out on a ball from Chris Nobrega.  McCall beat the Buccaneer defense that was up, to a loose ball and walked in alone on Young to make it a two goal lead.

The second half got more physical as the game wore on and the Buccaneers (3-7, 0-3) continued to out shoot MCLA, but could not get anything past Trailblazer goalie Adam Tarsa. Tarsa made eight saves including six in the second half for the shutout. The game featured four second-half yellow cards.

Ryan Fischer (three shots) and Tim McDonough (two shots) led the Buccaneer attack.

Sullivan added his second goal of the game for MCLA in the second half off of a Mass. Maritime turnover; with the Buccaneers thinking offense, Sullivan was able to walk in alone on Young.

MCLA will next host Framingham State Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Buccaneers will host Newbury Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
