MCLA, Union collect wins in 2011 CIAO Classic
North Adams, MA- The 2011 CIAO Men's Soccer Classic got underway with host MCLA and Union (NY) scoring victories. The Trailblazers defeated Medgar Evers 1-0 in the nightcap, while Union handled Husson College 6-1.
MCLA vs. Medgar Evers-
The Trailblazers used a first half goal by sophomore Tedd Cecchetelli en route to the 1-0 win. The game was marred by 39 fouls and 16 offsides calls.
Cecchetelli took a Jake McCall cross to score the game winner at the 15:27 mark. The marker was his first of the season. The Trailblazers had several chances to extend the lead in the second period as they had two goals negated by offsides calls, while a third shot hit the crossbar.
MCLA outshot Medgar Evers 21-2 on the day. Trailblazer junior keeper Dillon Wager didn't have to register a save in the win, while his counterpart Christopher Welsh stopped four shots.
Union vs. Husson
Union wasted little time in improving to 4-0 on the season as forward Sebastiaan Jansen tallied two first half goals, while adding a third at the 55 minute mark to complete the hat trick. Husson drops to 1-2-1 with the loss.
Behind Jansen's opening period goals, Union led 2-0 at the break. Nick Vozella added a marker at the 57 minute mark, while Sahr Nyuma and Brad Woodruff tallied goals.
Husson's lone goal came in the 72nd minute off the foot of Greg Dawson.
Union outshot Husson 26-7 in the win. Adam Margulies earned the win after a scoreless opening half. Mason Smith stopped five shots for Husson.
