Trailblazers drop third straight, fall at Castleton 3-1

Castleton, VT- The MCLA Men's Soccer team scored late, but it wasn't enough as the host Castleton State Spartans earned a 3-1 victory over the Trailblazers.  The loss, MCLA's third straight, drops them to 3-5-1 overall.  Castleton moves to 5-3-1 on the season.

Sophomore Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.) had a hand in all three Spartan goals, scoring twice and adding an assist.  Dandurand started things off for the Spartans in the fifth minute heading home his third goal of the season off a Dillon Zaengle (Westhampton, Mass.) assist. Zaengle played a direct kick from 30 yards out towards the far post, and Dandurand redirected it past MCLA keeper Dillon Wager (Amsterdam, N.Y.).

Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) made it 2-0 at the 40:49 mark, sending home his seventh goal off assists from Dandurand and Tanner LeCuyer (Pallstburgh, N.Y.). LeCuyer initiated the play with a long throw-in that Dandurand headed over to Kotrady, who then redirected it past Wager inside the far post.

Dandurand added an insurance marker in the 59th minute, finishing a nifty play for his second of the game. Nick Johnas (Niskayuna, N.Y.) intercepted a clearing pass 30 yards out, dribbled past a Trailblazer defender and slipped a perfect through pass to Zac Conlogue (Farmington, Maine) who one-touched it over to Dandurand.

MCLA got one back in the 87th minute as Austin Sniezek (Peru, Mass.) scored his first of the season. Brandon Asher (Adams, Mass.) served a free kick into the box from 30 yards out, and Sniezekheaded it past Castleton goalie Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.).

Castleton had the better of play for much of the evening, out-shooting MCLA 32-8.

Wager stopped five shots in 84:45 of action before giving way to Shawn Willis (Stephentown, N.Y.). Koenemann made two saves in the win.

MCLA will look to snap their skid when they travel to Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday.
